Devil Ride 2009
NEWS: Following our test ride on Sunday we are confident that all of the hard work that has gone into route planning has been worth every minute - the route is even better than in 08, with a great mix of high moorland, wooded lanes and sleepy meadows and an ideal balance of tough climbing with gentler rolling/sweeping stretches...finished off with a highly enjoyable 10 mile final run in along the Usk valley. Read the report of our test ride on Cyclosport - thanks to Dave Lee for that and to all for the great company.
NEWS: Secure on-line entry is still available here - but less than 20 places remaining!
NEWS: The route outlines for both the full 105 mile route and the shorter 50 mile route have been updated here. Travel and accommodation sections have also been added.
From the organisers of the Autumn Epic, and a sell out event in 2008, the second running of the Devil Ride 100 mile cyclosportive will take in many of the classic climbs of mid Wales, including the infamous Devil's Staircase - click here for an excellent write-up of last year's event.
For 2009 we will be introducing several changes that were trialled so successfully at the Epic, including free hot food at the finish. But the biggest changes are to the date, which has moved to mid July, and to the event centre, which is now a few miles to the south and will feature a huge free car park on site, a free campsite in the grounds of the lovely Glanusk Country Estate, better transport links, and allow us to increase entry numbers as the Devil Ride sold out early in 2008.
We will be sharing the event centre and facilities at Glanusk with the Slick 'n' Knobbly cycling festival, which as well as the Devil Ride will host a weekend of varied cycling activity.

Photographs of the 2008 Devil Ride are available here - just click on a location and photos are then grouped into number ranges. Finishing times are also available in raw form here - if you think you have been incorrectly recorded please let us know. The lucky winner of a superb Orbea Orca frameset has been drawn from the hat - Julian Humphries from Sheffield -
As well as the Devil's Staircase, the 100 mile route takes in many other significant climbs - however, this ride isn’t all about steep climbs. It is a tough event to be sure, but we haven’t gone out of way to make it hard just for the sake of it.
As always, number one in our priority list is the enjoyment factor. We love riding in this area, and we want to showcase some of the best scenery on offer, while giving riders a day out to remember. |
